Ma’Kalah is originally from from New Orleans, Louisiana, where she began swimming at age of three-years-old. She briefly paused swimming to put more focus into dancing. Once she moved to Indiana for college, she continued her swim career at Anderson University sophomore through senior year.
Ma’Kalah has 7 years of experience as a lifeguard and taught lessons (group and private) for 4 years. She feels that teaching kids safety and the basics of swimming is a top priority because it provides them with the essential skills and offers comfort to parents. She strives to make lessons as fun as possible for the students, so that they will want to continue with lessons while ensuring their progress across multiple skills.
Outside of swimming, Ma’Kalah is a registered behavior technician and works with kids with autism. She has worked with ages ranging from 6 years old to 17 years, varying levels on the spectrum (from non-verbal to higher-functioning). She absolutely loves working with children, in and out of the pool!
