Dancing Through the Summer Heat

June 26, 2023

Keep Dancing!

As the sun shines brighter, and days grow longer, a great way to use up our energy and unleash our creativity is to keep dancing! Here you will find 4 ways to beat the heat and move at the same time:

Indoor Dance

During the day, explore dance styles in the comfort of your own home! Take advantage of the cool air and the indoors while working out to Zumba, Hip-Hop, West African cardio, or Bollywood! There is a wide array of dance styles that are both fun, but make you break a sweat. This is also a way to engage the whole family throughout the day, when it may be too hot to explore the outdoors.

Water Dance

A perfect way to embrace our inner Ariel is to make a splash with some dance in the water. Aqua Zumba is perfect for all fitness levels and is also low-impact, which is safe for people who may be recovering from an injury. You can even fold an Aqua Zumba dance party and invite your family and friends! Dancing in the water is an amazing workout as you use various muscles, and burn a lot of calories, without the strain on your hips and knees.

Dance in Nature

As a nature lover, one of my favorites of the summer is being able to dance while being surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors! This summer, try to embrace nature and incorporate it into your workout and dance routine. Whether that means dancing in your local park, your backyard garden, or finding a nearby forest, nature provides biophilia that enhances your mood and decreases stress. If you do decide to embrace the elements, make sure that you protect yourself with lots of sunscreen and bug spray.

Night Dance Sessions

When looking for dance classes, look for evening classes. Evenings often bring a sense of calmness that enhances any dance class. So after a long summer day, one of the best ways to center yourself, relax, and have your much-needed “me time” is to immerse yourself in the music, rhythm, and community that an evening dance class brings.

So, whether you choose to dance indoors, in the water, amidst nature’s embrace, or under the stars, let this summer be your dance playground. With these ideas and practices, you can keep your passion ignited, stay active, and create a memorable dance journey throughout the sunny season. Embrace the rhythm, embrace the joy, and let your dance story unfold in the summer heat!
