Pack your Breakfast with Vegetables

November 12, 2012

Green Eggs and Ham…Not Exactly!

Pancakes, waffles, bagels and toast (don’t forget the coffee!) This is what breakfast usually looks like for most people whether they are enjoying brunch with friends on Sunday or racing out the door to catch the el. Yes, these breakfast items are quick, convenient and oh so delicious…but these high calorie treats will only leave you wanting more.

Fueling your fabulously skinny selves is extremely important. Good carbs, high protein and good fat will help keep you full and satisfied! Ditch the processed bagels and pancakes and try a sweet potato hash (hold the oil and butter!) Get that protein punch with eggs or tofu and finally…ADD THOSE GREENS! Veggie omelets/scrambles are easy to prepare, cook or order. Many restaurants will let you create your own scramble, so pack in those greens to get your serving of necessary vitamins and minerals. Try asparagus. This green veggie is filled with antioxidants and has the ability to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals.

While omelets and scrambles are not easy to grab while on the run, healthy eating does involve effort just like everything else…and a little bit of preparation goes a long way!
