Stay Hydrated this Summer with these Delicious, Low-Calorie Drinks

Tired of Drinking Water?

Drink water, drink water, drink water….it’s all we here! While it is true that you should be drinking plenty of good old h2o throughout the day (especially in this heat), it’s ok to jazz up that glass or change it up completely once in a while. Here are some of my favorite ways to stay hydrated without consuming unnecessary empty calories.

-Seltzer. Yum, yum, yum! If you are a fan of bubbles, ditch the soda (both regular AND diet) and reach for a plain or flavored seltzer. It has zero calories because it is made with WATER! You must be careful when purchasing seltzer, however. Make sure you read the labels. Some seltzers have added aspartame. You want the ingredient list to read: water.

-Coconut Water. I will enjoy a glass of ice cold coconut water if I am in the mood for something flavorful or after a super sweaty workout. It has lots of potassium and will replenish those minerals lost when you sweat without added sugar. Make sure you check the serving size, however. Some bottles come with two.

-Unsweetened Iced Tea. Want something deeper in flavor? Choose an unsweetened iced tea. Yes, there is a little bit of caffeine, but this is not the worst choice in the world. It has zero sugar and has two ingredients: water and tea. Remember, the shorter the list of ingredients, the better! Jazz it up with some fresh lemon and mint leaves. Fantastic!

-Sparkling water and a dash of fruit juice. Sometimes I want tart or a little bit sweet but I don’t want to consume too much sugar. So, what’s a girl to do? Mix up some sparkling water or seltzer with a splash of your favorite 100% fruit juice. You will be consuming mostly water with just a hint of sweetness or tang. My favorite: sparking water, a splash of OJ and a splash of pomegranate juice.

Continue to drink water, my friends. But, when you are in the mood for something different, enjoy these drinks free of guilt!
