I began teaching yoga to my nieces and nephews as a way of getting them involved in physical activity. 20+ years later one of those nieces is a certified yoga instructor. She said I inspired her, but after those 20+ years practicing I still hadn’t gotten my certification. “Just do it, Uncle Gio!” she would say to me. So, inspired by my niece, I just did it and started on my path to become a healer. My aim in teaching yoga is to bring the benefits of a mindful practice to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. I want to make yoga accessible to all. I use my experience with Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, meditation, personal training, and Tai Chi to create a practice that is rooted in the principles of yoga while maintaining it fresh, fun, and functional. Making sure that the ultimate goal for a practice is personal achievement and grounding self awareness and mindfulness. I began my teaching experience with differently abled people; quad and paraplegic, wheelchair and bed bound individuals. The joy of sharing their achievements fueled a passion in me and I was soon teaching seniors, children and people of all ages; all the while noticing the benefits of yoga for everyone. It all sounds heady and esoteric but it is really quite simple. I practice (and teach) to find stillness. That place where I am facing myself, by myself and I am able to see myself and love myself. That peace, that illumination is what I want to share with every person that steps onto a mat.
