Frequently Asked Questions
Preparing for Your Lessons: Please Read Before Purchasing
How old should a child be to begin swim lessons?
Parents have enrolled their children in swim lessons as young as six months. While children at this age may not grasp swim strokes or life-saving techniques, introducing them to water early is beneficial. Parent-child swim lessons also create wonderful bonding experiences. It’s recommended that all children participate in swim lessons once they turn one, and continue with refresher lessons each summer.
How old is too old for swim lessons?
There is no age limit for learning to swim. We have had clients in their 80s take swim lessons. Everyone is unique, but acquiring life-saving skills is essential at any age.
Do you offer trial lessons?
Yes, you can purchase a single lesson before committing to a package, allowing you to try swim lessons without a significant upfront investment. Since our swim coaches travel to your home, we must compensate them for their time, so we do not provide free lessons.
What qualifications do your swim coaches have?
You can find the biographies of our swim coaches on our professional team page. Each coach has been personally hired by the owner of Kb Fitness Solutions, Inc. and has observed lessons with her own children. Every coach possesses experience, certifications, and has undergone a background check prior to being hired.
Do your instructors prioritize safety?
Absolutely! Safety is our top priority for every swim client. Our coaches assess each child individually and tailor their programs to meet specific needs. We do NOT dunk or throw children into the pool. Instead, we focus on teaching through play and games to ensure that each child’s experience is enjoyable and free from trauma.
How many swim lessons should someone take each week?
We suggest participating in swim lessons at least twice a week if possible. For parent and baby sessions (under one year old), once a week is sufficient. Many parents opt for four or five consecutive lessons, commonly known as boot-camp-style swim lessons. This approach often takes place during the summer when children have more flexible schedules, but we can host them anytime throughout the year in an indoor pool. Research indicates that this method is the most effective for instilling swim safety skills and achieving rapid progress. Don’t worry, the term “boot camp” is just a name; the lessons are enjoyable and filled with games, quite different from what the name suggests.
How long can it take an adult to learn to swim?
While gaining confidence to feel comfortable in the water at a later age may take a little more time, the truth is it’s never too late to learn to swim and your date of birth should never be a reason not to dive in and learn a new – and very important – skill. When it comes to learning how to swim, age is no barrier.
Fear of water: If you’re not afraid of the water, you can learn to swim in as little as 20–25 hours of lessons. However, if you’re afraid of the water, it can take longer to learn to swim.
Physical fitness: If you’re overweight or unfit, it can take longer to learn to swim.
Learning pace: Everyone learns to swim at a different pace.
If you’re an adult just starting swim lessons, you can expect to learn the basic strokes – front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke – in around 6 to 12 weeks. You can meet this goal if you take classes once or twice per week. It can take longer to achieve intermediate or advanced skills like butterfly and swimming laps.
“All Eyes On” Policy
Kb Fitness Solutions, Inc. adopts an “All Eyes On” Policy, requiring a parent or caregiver to remain on deck during lessons. We ask that you refrain from using your phone or laptop during this time to ensure the child’s safety. Parents should not interfere with lessons unless assistance is needed for misbehavior.
What if it rains or is too cold for outdoor lessons?
Weather can be unpredictable. In the event of inclement weather, we encourage parents to stay in close communication with their instructor to make a mutual decision about holding classes. Swimming lessons should not occur during rain accompanied by lightning, but a light drizzle is acceptable if both parties agree.
What is the refund policy?
Kb Fitness Solutions, Inc. has a NO REFUND policy. Please ensure you have a secure pool location for the lessons. Swim lessons can be gifted to someone else if necessary, or converted into private personal training for the parent. In some cases, we may freeze lessons until the following summer for medical reasons preventing lessons. If an instructor faces an emergency and cannot conduct the lessons, we will replace them with another qualified instructor. Our instructors provide detailed notes after each session for continuity, as many work with the same clients. We strive to ensure a smooth transition in rare cases, though lessons may be delayed by a few days during this process.
What is the cancellation policy?
To cancel a session, please provide at least 24-hour notice. We understand that “LIFE HAPPENS,” and emergencies can arise, so we have a “LIFE HAPPENS” policy that allows clients to cancel without penalty up to six times a year, limited to one every two months. If you anticipate needing multiple last-minute cancellations, please inform us so we can accommodate you. If a child is sick, we ask for at least two hours’ notice. If the instructor is already en route, the session will count against your package. We understand that children get sick frequently, and we strive to be as flexible as possible.
Cancellations made with less than two hours’ notice do not fall under the “Life Happens” policy. This policy also applies to Kb Fitness Solutions Inc. staff in the rare instance they must cancel with less than 24-hour notice; they will credit a free session to the client’s package if this occurs more than once in a two-month period.
Cancellations within two hours of the scheduled start time do not qualify for the Life Happens policy. Those sessions will be counted against your package.
We aim to be accommodating for children, especially since they tend to get sick more often while building their immune systems. If your child is unwell, please reach out to the instructor as soon as possible to cancel the lesson, as we want to avoid sharing germs.
Our “No Show Policy” states that if a client fails to notify Kb Fitness Solutions Inc. about a cancellation before the instructor arrives at their home, the session will be counted against their package, regardless of how many “Life Happens” sessions they have used. If an instructor shows up for a lesson, they will be compensated for their time.
