Introducing the 7 Chakras: The Sacral Chakra

December 9, 2024

The next chakra in our Introduction to the 7 Chakras series is the second of the seven main energy centers, the Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthana in Sanskrit. Svadhisthana translates to “seat of self” and is also known as “the sweet place.” Located below the navel, the Sacral Chakra is associated with orange and represents the water element. This chakra relates to our emotions, desires, creativity, and relationships. The Sacral Chakra is linked to the ability to adapt to change and self-expression, allowing emotions to flow freely.

Signs of a balanced Sacral Chakra

● Creative expression

● Emotional stability

● Ability to create and maintain healthy boundaries

● Confidence in desires

● Healthy relationships

Signs of an imbalanced Sacral Chakra

● Lack of creativity

● Emotional numbness or overwhelm

● Insecurity

● Reliance on external pleasures

● Difficulty forming meaningful relationships

Ways to balance the Sacral Chakra

● Asanas: Hip-opening poses, including Baddha Konasana (Butterfly Pose), Upavistha Konasana (Wide-Angled Seated Forward Bend), and Kapotasana (Pigeon Pose), help create space for emotional release. Marjaryasana/Bitilasana (Cat pose/Cow pose) also releases blocked energy, bringing balance to the Sacral Chakra.

● Elemental Connection: Connect with water by going for a swim, taking a walk near a body of water, or enjoying a bath to bring a sense of connection to the Sacral Chakra.

● Affirmations: Repeating mantras like “I honor my emotions; I deserve pleasure and joy; I allow my creativity to flow freely” creates a deeper awareness of the Sacral Chakra.

The Sacral Chakra allows us to turn inward, channeling emotional intelligence through the ebbs and flows of life
